2013 CRI JUNIOR PROGRAM

By the time you read this article; the Cumberland Riflemen Junior Program for 2013 will be in the books.

Since revitalizing the Junior Program in late 2011, this has been our most successful year to date thanks to the help of some amazing people. Frank Hignutt came into our Program in late 2012, and assumed Kim Quigley's position as Assistant Coordinator in 2013, as her efforts in the Pistol Leagues required her full time attention. Frank brought his expertise in the NRA / Winchester Shooting Programs into our Junior Program to allow our members the opportunities to qualify for ratings and earn their badges and certificates.

In addition we would never have gotten off the ground without the help of Sherman Hartman, Ken Hignutt, Frank Karwowski, Paul Adamowski, Tom Wnorowski, Ron Maxwell, and many parents of our Junior Members that provided extra eyes on our busy days. The Junior Program is not a one or two man operation, but a collection of these individuals all contributing their time, efforts, and quite often monies to our cause. A special thank you to the Cumberland Riflemen Executive Board for your continued support and funding to the Junior Program. (I apologize if I forgot anyone else!)

Our Junior Program at this time is 27 members, including 11 young ladies. We are all quite proud of this accomplishment as we started the revitalization with one (1) member in the summer of 2011.

In addition to our safety training, shooting programs, and fun shoots; we were able to have a number of our Juniors compete this Summer in Ron Maxwell's Rimfire Prone Matches, as well as two CMP Rimfire Sporter Matches. They also had the opportunity of competing against the Salem County 4-H Shooting Team and performed admirably in all these venues.

If there are any CRI Members that have children, grandchildren, or friends that might be interested in having them join our Junior Program, please don't hesitate to contact me. Our ages are 10-17, and we really have an amazing group of young boys and girls. In addition we could not do this Program without the help of some amazing parents! It is these families that are the reason for our continuing with this successful program.

We always start our year with a Pizza Get-Together in Vineland, NJ in February. and finish the season with a Parents-Child Shoot-Off, followed by another Pizza Party and Awards Ceremony in early November.

If it sound like a lot of fun,...... it is!
